▶️ Charge tax on products

1. Ensure Product Pricing is Not Tax Inclusive

  • In Salesforce, open the StoreConnect app.

  • Go to:

    • StoreConnect NavigationConfigurationStoresAll Stores.
  • Open your store record.

  • Under the Products tab:

    • Make sure Product Price is Tax Inclusive is not checked.

    • If it is unchecked, tax will appear as a separate item on the billing.

    • If checked, tax will be included in your set product prices (not ideal if you want it listed separately).

2. Create or Configure a Zone

  • Go to:

    • StoreConnect NavigationConfigurationLocationsZones.
  • A Zone defines the geographic area where tax will apply.

  • You can:

    • Create a new Zone, or

    • Edit an existing Zone (e.g. Australia).

  • In the Zone record:

    • Add Countries, States, Post Codes, or Cities.

    • Tax will apply if the customer’s address falls within this Zone.

3. Create the Tax Rate

  • Go to:

    • StoreConnect NavigationConfigurationTaxesTax Rates.
  • Click New to create a new tax rate.

  • Configure:

    • Name → e.g. “GST (Goods and Services Tax)”.

    • Tax Rate % → e.g. 10% for GST.

    • Zone → select the Zone you configured (e.g. Australia).

    • Shipping Address Checkbox → tick if tax is based on shipping address (common case), or leave unticked to use billing address.

    • Effective Start Date → set to the past or today to activate immediately.

    • Effective End Date → optional, for future tax rate changes.

  • Click Save.

4. Apply Tax to Products

  • In the Tax Rate record, go to the Related tab.

  • Under Product Taxes, click New.

  • Select the Product(s) to which this tax will apply.

    • For multiple products: click Save and New to continue adding.
  • To apply tax to shipping:

    • Select the StoreConnect Shipping Product.

    • This ensures the tax rate also applies to shipping costs.

5. Test Tax Application

  • On your website, perform a test order:

    • Add a product to cart.

    • Go to Checkout and enter customer details.

    • Confirm that tax appears:

      • Example: a $30 product with 10% tax will display $33 ($3 tax listed separately).
  • Test with shipping:

    • Apply shipping and confirm tax is also calculated correctly:

      • Example: $10 shipping + 10% tax = $11 total for shipping.
