It applies to both guest and logged-in checkouts.\n\nA cart can proceed to checkout only when all of the following are true:\n\n1.  The cart has a linked **Store**.\n2.  The cart has at least one valid **Cart Item** (an in-stock, available product).\n3.  The **Abandoned** checkbox is not selected.\n4.  The **Status** is not `paid`, `complete`, or `quotation_requested`.\n\nWhen payment is completed (or a quotation is requested), StoreConnect automatically creates a new **Order** record with a **Status** of `Draft`. Once the order exists, the cart's **Order** field is populated, creating a two-way link between the cart and the order.\n\n### How contact details are recorded\n\nFor guest (anonymous) carts, the **Contact** and **Account** fields stay blank. The customer's email and phone are stored in the **Checkout Email** and **Checkout Phone** fields on the cart.\n\nFor logged-in customer carts, the **Contact** and **Account** fields are populated automatically from the customer's login. The **Checkout Email** on the cart can still differ from the email on the linked **Contact**. A customer can enter a different email during checkout without changing their **Contact** record.\n\n## Failed conversions\n\nDo not manually create an **Order** record to resolve a failed conversion. Conversion involves several linked steps that the system must handle together, and creating the order by hand can leave the records inconsistent. Escalate to technical support instead.\n\n## Staff-assisted conversion\n\nThe **Assisted By User** field identifies the Salesforce user who helped a customer complete their purchase. When the cart converts to an order, this value carries over, giving you an audit trail for staff-assisted sales.\n\n## Quote requests converted to orders\n\nWhen a customer adds an item that needs a quote, the checkout flow is shortened. When checkout is finalized, StoreConnect:\n\n1.  Validates the contact information and saves it to the cart.\n2.  Creates an **Order** record from the cart data.\n3.  Converts **Cart Items** to **Order Items**.\n4.  Transfers customer notes and **Cart Campaign** records.\n5.  Sets the cart's **Status** to `quotation_requested`.\n6.  Finalizes the quotation through a background job within 30 seconds.\n7.  Creates a new empty cart for the customer's session.\n\nFor how to prepare your store and products for quotes, see [Quote requests](quote-requests)."}
