Or made available externally to your public customers. External agents can be trained to operate like a 24/7 sales rep and support provider.\n\n## Step 1: add an agent via agentforce studio\n\nYou’ll follow a kind of wizard to set up the agent. \n\n1.  Navigate to Agentforce Studio. You should see the following sections:\n\n    -   Agentforce Agents\n\n    -   Agentforce Assets \n\n    -   Testing Center\n\n2.  Go to **Agentforce Agents**.\n\n3.  Select **\\+ New Agent** to open the **Agent Creator**.\n\n4.  Select **Create with Gen AI**.\n\n5.  In the **What do you want your agent to do?** field, enter a comprehensive and detailed description. Use plain, everyday language to describe the agent’s role and what you want it to be able to do. The generative AI engine will use this description to predict the topics you might need (later step).\n\n    ![Choose to create an agent with generative AI](https://res.cloudinary.com/hzkr6fi81/image/upload/v1765236273/knowledge/AgentforceAI/Create_you_agent-4-agent-creator-gen-ai_yzgh0t.png)\n\n6.  Select **Next**.\n\n\n## Step 2: basic agent customization\n\nThis is just a few basic customizations, not styling ones, which you will do later.\n\n1.  On the **Customize your Agent** screen, enter:\n\n    -   The agent’s **Name**, \n\n    -   An **API Name**.\n\n    -   The **Company Name.**\n\n    -   **Company Description**. You can also leave the default values.\n\n2.  If you have Data Cloud and want enhanced logging, select the **Keep a record of conversations** option.\n\n3.  Set up the **Agent User** if you want to specify one or leave the default and a **New Agent User** will be created anyway.\n\n    ![Basic customization of AI agent](https://res.cloudinary.com/hzkr6fi81/image/upload/v1765236273/knowledge/AgentforceAI/Create_you_agent-5-agent-creator-customize-your-agent_noge0l.png)\n\n4.  Select **Next**.\n\n\n## Step 3: configure topics\n\nTopics help your agent understand how you want to answer questions about your products and services. Some defaults are automatically added (based on what you have entered in the **What do you want your agent to do?** field**)**, but you can delete these and add your own topics. \n\n1.  Review the topics list and decide if you want to delete any of the **AI-Generated** topics. \n\n2.  Remove the ones you do not want.\n\n    ![Basic topic config for agent AI](https://res.cloudinary.com/hzkr6fi81/image/upload/v1765236273/knowledge/AgentforceAI/Create_you_agent-6-Add-Topics_qwknra.png)\n\n3.  Click **Next**. You are prompted to add data sources.\n\n4.  If you have configured sources in Data Cloud, you can add them now. \n\n5.  Click **Create** to create your agent. You should now see it in the Agent Builder.\n\n\nFollow the separate topic about agent topics to add more resources and details.\n\n## (Optional) configure a variable for an agent\n\nIf you want a specific store or contact ID to be identified during a conversation with a customer, you can set this as a variable in the agent.\n\n1.  In the Agent Builder, go to the **Context** tab and select **New Variable**.\n\n    ![Add variable for store ID in Agent setup](https://res.cloudinary.com/hzkr6fi81/image/upload/v1765236275/knowledge/AgentforceAI/Set_up_agent_actions_3-assign-agent-variables_k3fjm1.png)\n\n2.  Enter the following information:\n\n    -   Name: storeId\n\n    -   Description: The StoreConnect Store RecordId the user is currently interacting with.\n\n    -   Data Type: Text\n\n    -   Allow value to be set by API: checked (true)\n\n    -   Allow LLM to use value: unchecked (false)\n\n3.  Select **Save**."}
