What Are UTM Tracking Codes?**\n\n-   **UTM = Urchin Tracking Module** — originally developed by Urchin (now part of **Google Analytics**).\n\n-   UTM codes are small bits of code **appended to a URL** to track visitor source \u0026 behavior.\n\n-   StoreConnect supports UTM tracking with a key benefit:\n\n    -   UTM data is stored as **first-party cookies** → more privacy-friendly \u0026 accurate.\n\n    -   Data is recorded directly in **Salesforce** once a purchase is completed.\n\n\n---\n\n### **2\\. UTM Code Types**\n\nYou can append one or more of these to a URL:\n\n| UTM Parameter | Purpose                                                                     |\n|---------------|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------|\n| utm_source    | Identifies where the traffic comes from (e.g. newsletter, Facebook, Google) |\n| utm_medium    | Identifies the marketing medium (e.g. email, social, CPC, banner)           |\n| utm_campaign  | Names the specific campaign (e.g. Summer Sale, Black Friday)                |\n| utm_term      | Tracks keywords (useful for paid search)                                    |\n| utm_content   | Differentiates similar links/content in the same campaign                   |\n\n---\n\n### **2\\. How to Use UTM Codes**\n\n1.  Copy a URL from your StoreConnect website (e.g. Product / Page / Article).\n\n2.  Append UTM codes to the URL:\n    Example:\n\n    `[https://www.yourstore.com/product-page?utm_source=email\u0026utm_campaign=stocktake_sale](https://www.yourstore.com/product-page?utm_source=email\u0026utm_campaign=stocktake_sale)`\n\n3.  Use this full URL in your marketing campaign (e.g. **email, ad, social post**).\n\n\n---\n\n### **4\\. Tracking UTM Data in StoreConnect**\n\n1.  When a customer clicks a UTM-tagged URL, the UTM data is saved via **first-party cookie**.\n\n2.  If they make a purchase:\n\n    -   Go to the **Order record** in StoreConnect.\n\n    -   Under **Related Fields → Order Campaigns**, you'll see the recorded UTM data:\n\n        -   Source\n\n        -   Medium\n\n        -   Campaign\n\n        -   Term\n\n        -   Content\n\n\n---\n\n### **5\\. Key Benefits**\n\n-   **First-party tracking** → no data leakage to third parties (unlike Google or Facebook pixels).\n\n-   **Full attribution** → UTM data is linked **directly to the final order**.\n\n-   **Higher accuracy** → matches visitors' journey to actual checkout — better than third-party tools.\n\n-   **Privacy-friendly** → complies with modern data privacy expectations.\n\n---\n\n### **Summary Workflow**\n\n1.  Build a URL → add UTM codes\n2.  Use the URL in a marketing campaign\n3.  Customer clicks \u0026 shops → UTM data stored via 1st-party cookie\n4.  Customer completes order → UTM data recorded in Salesforce\n5.  Analyze **ROI \u0026 campaign performance** accurately from Order records"}
