But you can turn that requirement off to make signing up faster. This is useful if you have a store where people register to see pricing or join a mailing list. You can still require them to give an address later when they buy something.\n\nNote that the address fields stay on the form, they just become optional.\n\n## Details that are still required\n\nEven with the address requirement off, a customer must still give:\n\n- Email\n- Password\n- First name\n- Last name\n\nPhone, company name and campaign fields are optional either way, so this setting does not change them.\n\n## Turn the address requirement off\n\n1.  Open the **Store** record.\n2.  Go to **Store Variables**.\n3.  Create a store variable with **Key** set to `registration.address_required` and **Value** set to `false`.\n4.  Save the record.\n\n:::warning\nThe value must be `false`, in any capitalization, so `False` and `FALSE` work too. Anything else leaves addresses required, including `no`, `0`, and an empty value. There is no error or warning if you type something else, so check the value if the form does not change.\n:::\n\nTo put the requirement back, set the value to `true` or delete the store variable. Both work, because the address is required unless the variable explicitly says `false`.\n\n## What this does not change\n\n**Checkout is unaffected.** This setting applies to the account registration form only. A customer who registers without an address is still asked for one at checkout, on every order.\n\n**Existing accounts are untouched.** Turning the requirement off does not remove or alter an address anyone has already given.\n\n**Your theme needs no change.** The form marks each field as required or not, and the shipped theme reads that marking to decide whether to show a required indicator. A custom theme that does the same picks the change up automatically. Registration fields carry no browser-level `required` attribute either way, so nothing in the browser blocks a blank address.\n\n## Check it worked\n\nOpen your storefront's registration page as a signed-out visitor. The address fields are still shown, but no longer marked as required. Fill in only email, password, first name and last name, and confirm the account is created and you are signed in."}
