# Organize files and media

Use these tasks to keep your media library manageable as it grows: group files into folders, find them by name or tag, bookmark the ones you use often, and remove the ones you no longer need.

## Organize images in folders

You can use folders to organize images. Folders nest up to three levels deep.

The folder panel offers the following controls.

| Control | What it does |
|---------|--------------|
| 1 | Renames a folder. Select the edit icon next to the folder name. |
| 2 | Searches for a file by name or ID. |
| 3 | Adds a new folder. Enter the name inline. |
| 4 | Renames the folder inline. |
| 5 | Moves the folder. A dialog opens where you choose where to nest it. |
| 6 | Deletes the folder. |

:::note
Deleting a folder does not delete the files inside it. Those files move to the top level and remain accessible in the **All media** section.
:::

## Search for media by name

1. In the media manager toolbar, select the **Find media** field.
2. Type all or part of the media name. For example, `banner`.

    The right panel updates as you type, showing only media whose name matches what you entered.

3. To clear the search, delete the text in the **Find media** field or select the clear icon.

The right panel returns to showing the full contents of the selected folder.

## Assign tags to a media record

Tags allow you to categorize media records with descriptive labels for filtering and discovery.

Before anyone can create or assign tags, your StoreConnect admin needs to [enable Salesforce Topics on the Media object](media-manager-admin-tasks-one-time-only), with the **Name** field selected.

1. Open the media you want to tag.
2. Enter or select tags in the **Media Tags** field.
3. Repeat to assign multiple tags.

4.  Select **Save**.

The tags now appear as filter options in the media manager.

## Filter media by tag

1. In the media manager toolbar, select **Filters**.
2. Type or select the tags you want to filter by.

    The display area updates to show all media that meets the filter criteria.

3. To remove the filter, deselect the active tags or select **Clear filters**.

The display area returns to showing all media in the current folder.

## Use favorites

Favorites allow you to bookmark media files for quick access. Each user's favorites are private, so they are not shared across the organization.

### Add a media file to favorites

You can favorite a file from grid view, list view, or a media record page.

1. In the media manager, locate the file you want to favorite.
2. Select the three dots menu on the file and select **Favorite**. On a media record page, select the star icon instead.

The file now appears under **Favorites**. To remove it, select **Favorite** or the star icon again.

### View a list of your favorite media

In the left panel or toolbar of the media manager, select **Favorites**. The right panel lists only the media you have favorited.

## Delete a media file

:::warning
Deleting a media file is permanent and cannot be undone. Before you delete, open the media record and check the **Content using this media** section to confirm the file is not referenced by any product, page, or content record. Deleting a file that is still in use breaks the image wherever it appears on your storefront.
:::

1. In the media manager, locate the file you want to delete.
2. Select the menu icon (three dots) on the file and select **Delete**.
3. Select **Delete** again to confirm.

The file is removed from the media library and no longer appears in folder listings or search results.

## Manage media from related lists

Media records can also be created, edited, deleted, and viewed directly from related lists on associated Salesforce objects, such as products. Changes made via a related list are reflected immediately in the media manager library.
