Charge tax on products
On this page
Configure your store’s tax-inclusive pricing preference
In Salesforce, open the StoreConnect app and go to StoreConnect Navigation → Configuration → Stores → All Stores. Open your store record and check the Products tab.
The Product Price is Tax Inclusive setting controls how prices appear to customers:
- Unchecked — prices are displayed excluding tax. Tax is calculated at checkout and shown as a separate line item.
- Checked — prices already include tax. The tax component is not shown separately at checkout.
Choose the option that suits your pricing requirements and any applicable local regulations.
Create or configure a zone
A zone defines the geographic area where a tax rate applies. Go to StoreConnect Navigation → Configuration → Locations → Zones.
You can create a new zone or edit an existing one (for example, Australia). In the zone record, add the Countries, States, Post Codes, or Cities that the zone covers. Tax will apply when the customer’s address falls within the zone.
Create the tax rate
Go to StoreConnect Navigation → Configuration → Taxes → Tax Rates and select New.
Configure the following fields:
- Name — for example, “GST (Goods and Services Tax)”
- Tax Rate % — for example, 10% for GST
- Zone — select the zone you configured
- Shipping Address — tick this if tax should be based on the shipping address (the most common case), or leave it unticked to use the billing address
- Effective Start Date — set to today or a past date to activate immediately
- Effective End Date — optional; use this when a tax rate has a known expiry or is being replaced
Select Save.
Apply tax to products
In the tax rate record, go to the Related tab. Under Product Taxes, select New and choose the products this tax rate applies to. To add multiple products, use Save and New to continue without leaving the form.
To apply tax to shipping costs, add the StoreConnect Shipping Product as a product tax entry.
Test tax application
Place a test order on your website:
- Add a product to the cart.
- Go to checkout and enter customer details including a shipping address that falls within your configured zone.
- Confirm that tax appears correctly — for example, a $30 product at 10% tax should show $3 tax.
- If you applied tax to shipping, confirm that shipping tax also calculates — for example, $10 shipping at 10% tax should show $1 shipping tax.
