Assign traits to a product
On this page
You can assign traits to a product one at a time. There are two places to do it.
- The Traits tab on the product record, for when you are already editing a product.
- The Assign product traits screen in the StoreConnect Console, for when you are working through several products in a row.
Each value you add creates a Trait record (s_c__Trait__c) linking the product to the value.
Alternative methods
To add many products to one traits value, use the Trait Builder. To assign traits across a whole spreadsheet at once, see Import and export traits.
Before you start
- Make sure you have access to traits. If you do not, the panel shows a lock and asks you to contact your StoreConnect administrator.
- Build the categories, types, and values you want to assign. Only existing values can be assigned, See Trait Builder first. If no values are set up you can add them on the fly, but it is faster to set them up first.
Assign traits from the product record
- Open the Product record and select the Traits tab.
- In the search box, start typing a trait value.
- (Optional) Narrow the results with the Category and Type filter menus beside the search box.
- Select each value you want in the results. They are grouped under their category, and the footer keeps a running count.
-
Apply your selection. The button names the action, for example, Add 3 traits.
Assigned values then appear below the search under Assigned traits, grouped by type. To take a trait off a product, select its pill.
Assign traits from the console
- Open the StoreConnect Console and go to Inventory > Traits > Manage traits.
- In the Products with traits pane, select Assign traits.
- In Product, search for the product by name or code, then select it.
- Search for and select values the same way as on the product record. Changes are saved as you go, so there is no separate save step.
- Select Back to return to Manage traits.
To revise a product that already has traits, select its row in the Products with traits pane instead. The same screen opens with that product already chosen.
The values you added now appear under Assigned traits on the product, and on the storefront wherever their Trait Type is set to show them, as a specification, a filter, or both. See Choosing what a trait does if a value is not appearing where you expected.
