Payments and payment providers

On this page

StoreConnect integrates with a wide range of payment providers, giving you the flexibility to use your preferred gateway, support regional payment methods, and meet the requirements of specific industries. Multiple providers can be active at the same time, so different providers can serve different stores, regions, or channels.

All payments are recorded as Salesforce records, linked to the customer, order, and store that generated them.

Payment provider feature matrix

The table below shows which features each payment provider supports. ✅ means fully supported, ❌ means not available, and 🟡 means partially supported, with the details in the numbered footnotes below the table. Each feature is explained in its own section further down this page.

  1. Braintree supports Google Pay only. Apple Pay is not available with Braintree.
  2. Afterpay’s express checkout uses Afterpay’s own payment window rather than Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  3. Latitude in-store payments are made through an SMS payment link sent to the customer at the register rather than an integrated card terminal.
  4. Stripe ACH lets customers save bank account details for reuse at checkout, but automated subscription billing is not available.
  5. Subscription orders can renew with these methods, but no charge is processed automatically. Payment is collected manually (pay later) or added to the account balance (pay by account).

Linkly, Quest Airpay TAP, and Vii gift cards are in-store only integrations and are covered in POS-ready payment providers.

  • Windcave — New Zealand and Australian provider using a hosted payment page.
  • ACI — hosted payment page integration. Requires product ID and payment type configuration.

Buy now, pay later

  • Afterpay — pay-in-four installments with Afterpay’s own express checkout from cart and product pages. Amount limits are enforced by Afterpay at checkout.
  • Zip Pay — Australian BNPL provider using Zip’s hosted checkout.
  • Latitude — interest-free installment plans for larger purchases, online and in store. Specific products or product types can be excluded from Latitude payment.

International and education

  • Flywire — international payments for education and healthcare. Field mapping to Salesforce Contact fields (for example, a student ID) is configurable. The store currency must match the currency of the configured Flywire recipient.
  • TouchNet — US higher education payment provider using TouchNet’s hosted uPay page.

ACH bank transfer providers

These providers process US ACH bank transfer payments. Settlement is asynchronous: the payment stays pending until the transfer clears, typically within 1 to 5 business days.

  • Stripe ACH — US bank transfer via Stripe.
  • Adyen ACH — US bank transfer via Adyen.
  • Authorize.Net ACH — US bank transfer via Authorize.Net.
  • NMI ACH — US bank transfer via NMI.
  • StoreConnect Pay ACH — US bank transfer via StoreConnect Pay.

Manual and offline payment methods

  • Pay later — for offline payment methods such as bank transfer (EFT), BPay, check, and cash on delivery. No transaction is processed at checkout. Configurable payment instructions are shown to the customer, with Liquid template support.
  • Pay by account — charge the order to a Salesforce Account balance, with credit limits enforced at checkout. See Contact and account management features.

Payment preauthorization

Payment preauthorization is a two-step process: the customer’s card or account is authorized for an amount at checkout, and the charge is captured later, for example at dispatch or on fulfillment confirmation.

  • The authorized amount is held against the customer’s payment method without being charged
  • Capture can be for the full authorized amount or partial amounts (for installment-based fulfillment)
  • Uncaptured authorizations can be released without charge
  • Payment status moves from preauthorized to success on full capture, or through partial_capture stages if captured in installments

Providers that support preauthorization are marked in the feature matrix above. Preauthorization is turned on per provider with the use_preauth configuration option. Latitude can additionally reduce the held amount without releasing it in full.

Digital wallets

Apple Pay and Google Pay are available at the payment step with Stripe, Adyen, Square, Cybersource, Westpac Online Pay, eWAY, and Tyro. Braintree supports Google Pay only.

Wallet buttons are turned on per provider with the show_wallets configuration option. Provider-specific requirements apply: Apple Pay requires domain verification with Apple, and Google Pay requires a Google merchant ID and name.

Express checkout

Express checkout shows Apple Pay and Google Pay buttons on cart and product pages, so customers can pay without entering the full checkout flow. It is available with Stripe, Adyen, Cybersource, and Westpac Online Pay, and is turned on per provider with the express_checkout_enabled configuration option.

Afterpay offers its own express checkout from cart and product pages using Afterpay’s payment window rather than a digital wallet.

Recurring billing and saved payment methods

Providers marked as supporting recurring billing in the feature matrix can store a customer’s payment details and charge them automatically for subscription renewals. See Subscription features for what you can build with this.

Customers can also save a payment method for later use without making a purchase. This is supported by Stripe, Stripe ACH, and Square.

Refunds

Providers marked as supporting automated refunds in the feature matrix can process full or partial refunds directly from StoreConnect, without logging in to the provider’s own systems. For all other providers, process the refund in the provider’s own portal.

Preauthorized payments that have not yet been captured are released rather than refunded.

3D Secure

Stripe and Adyen apply 3D Secure automatically when the customer’s bank requires it. eWAY, Westpac Online Pay, Braintree, and NMI support optional 3D Secure, turned on with the three_d_secure configuration option. Providers that use a hosted payment page handle 3D Secure on the provider’s own page.

Multi-currency

Each store operates in a single configured currency, which is applied to every payment at checkout. Your merchant account with the payment provider must support your store’s currency. Flywire additionally requires the store currency to match the currency of the configured Flywire recipient.

Payment surcharges

Any payment provider can have a surcharge product assigned. When a customer selects that payment method at checkout, the surcharge is automatically added to the cart as a line item on the Salesforce Order. See Passing payment surcharges to customers.

Taking payments inside Salesforce

Card payments can be processed directly from a Salesforce Order record, for orders received by phone, email, or in person, using any provider marked as supporting Salesforce Payments in the feature matrix. No separate payment terminal or external tool is required. See Taking order payments from Salesforce.

Point of sale

Square (with Square Terminal), Tyro, and Latitude can take in-store payments through StoreConnect POS. Linkly cloud EFTPOS, Quest Airpay TAP tap to pay, and Vii gift cards are in-store only integrations. See POS-ready payment providers.
