Change page layouts for Salesforce objects

StoreConnect adds many fields to standard Salesforce objects, and your team needs to see them. In most orgs the StoreConnect app already does this, so check before you change any layout.

A page layout controls what fields and components appear on a record page, how they are arranged, and which sections, buttons, and related lists are available.

:::note Page layouts only affect what your team sees inside Salesforce. Your storefront and the data sync read records through the sync user’s object and field permissions, so a field that is not on a layout still syncs and still works on your site. :::

Check the StoreConnect app first

The StoreConnect app installs with its own record pages already set as the app default for these standard objects:

• Account
• Asset
• Contact
• Order
• OrderItem
• Pricebook2
• PricebookEntry
• Product2

If your team works in the StoreConnect app, they already see the StoreConnect fields on these records and you do not need to assign anything. Your layouts in every other app stay as they are, so any existing layouts and business processes your org relies on keep working.

To confirm, open a Product record from the StoreConnect app. If you can see sections such as Stock Information, Shipping Information, and Subscription Information, the StoreConnect record page is already in use and there is nothing further to do.

Choose your approach

Change a layout yourself when your team needs to work with StoreConnect data from one of your own apps rather than the StoreConnect app. You have two options.

• Keep your existing layout and add fields to it. Better when you have already customized a layout you do not want to lose, because it keeps the fields your other teams rely on. See add fields to page layouts.
• Switch to a StoreConnect layout. Fastest, and gives you every StoreConnect field and related list at once. Use this when your existing layout has nothing you need to keep, because assigning a different layout replaces the fields currently shown. Follow the steps below.

Before you begin

• You need Salesforce administrator permissions to edit page layout assignments.
• Decide which profiles should get the new layout. The assignment is made per profile, so a change applies to everyone on that profile.

Record types

StoreConnect does not add a record type to any standard object, and it does not require one. The package includes three record types, and all three belong to the StoreConnect Form object. They install automatically, and the StoreConnect permission sets already make them visible, so there is nothing for you to create.

If your org already uses record types on objects such as Account, Contact, Product, or Order, leave them as they are. Salesforce assigns page layouts per profile and per record type, so the assignment screen lists the record types you already have.

Open SC Product Layout to see how StoreConnect groups its fields, then mirror that grouping on your own layout.

Apply a page layout

Repeat these steps for each object you want to switch.

1. Go to Setup > Object Manager, then select the object you want to configure, for example Product.
2. Select Page Layouts in the left sidebar.
3. Select Page Layout Assignment. This screen shows the current assignment of user profiles (rows) to page layouts (columns).
4. Select Edit Assignment.
5. Select the profiles you want to update. Select the top box to select all profiles, or hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) as you select individual profiles.
6. Choose a layout from the Page Layout to Use list, for example SC Product Layout.
7. Select Save.
8. Confirm the change: open a record of that object as a user on one of the profiles you updated, and check the StoreConnect fields and related lists are now visible.

:::tip Assigning a layout does not grant access to the fields on it. Your users also need permission to see and edit those fields. See permission sets and page layout access for the permission sets StoreConnect provides and how to assign them. :::
