Set up POS
On this page
Work through these tasks in order to stand up a POS on your store. Later tasks depend on earlier ones: registers belong to an outlet, and users are attached to an outlet, so the outlet has to exist first.
POS setup tasks
- Configure your POS access URL — required to connect your store to the POS
- Add an outlet — the physical location of the POS
- Add registers — the transaction points within the outlet
- Configure the outlet as a stock location — so the outlet can be used for inventory tracking
- Define cash rounding rules — usually set to meet the financial compliance requirements of your region
- Configure accepted payment methods for POS
- Set up POS users and set their PINs
- Configure available fulfillment types and payment method labels
Once these are done, staff can connect a device to a register and start a shift.
Additional tasks
These depend on how your business operates, so complete the ones that apply to you.
- Require serial number entry for some purchases
- Route fulfillment to a station
- Set POS delivery options
- Set registers to lock automatically
- Manage POS data sync
- Choose a tablet or other device to run POS on
- Troubleshoot a frozen or crashed POS — recover a register that has crashed, frozen, or will not load
